About This Project

Some outdoor spaces are designed for relaxation, this was built for gathering. Inspired by the tiered seating of a classical amphitheater, this Central Illinois backyard transforms a challenging sloping site into a dramatic series of curved stone steps, retaining walls, and multi-level entertaining areas that descend toward a stunning pool surround.

At the heart of the design is a sweeping arc of tiered stone steps that double as casual seating, creating a natural stage for outdoor entertaining. A granite-topped bar wall overlooking the pool provides the perfect perch for guests, while a built-in stone water feature adds movement and sound to the environment. An inset hot tub, outdoor fireplace, and expansive pool surround complete a backyard that functions as beautifully as it looks.

The result is an outdoor living environment that feels both grand and intimate, a space that invites people to gather, linger, and come back again.
